Throughout his school life Robin played in orchestral, jazz, rock and pop bands on various instruments. He auditioned and gained a position with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales on Double Bass. Working in backing bands in the eighties Robin played alongside stars such as the Nolan Sisters, Lenny Henry, Mike Reid, Joe Longthorne and then joined Brotherhood of Man with whom he toured for ten years at home and abroad.

As well as having a very busy performance schedule, Robin has always found time for teaching, starting as a string tutor for Gwent Authority. He also taught at the University of Wales in both Caerleon and Cardiff campuses. Over the years, Robin has tutored on many orchestral and jazz courses, including taking part in many Rock and Pop showcases for the authority.

His teaching at Hereford College of Arts involves bass tuition and the integration of theory and practice in a performance context.
