Education

Studied at both Caerleon Endowed Junior and Caerleon Comprehensive School

Obtained 4 A levels in Music, French, German & History whilst studying at Caerleon Sixth Form

Graduating with a Bmus Hons in Jazz Performance Studies (Drum Kit) from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Summer 2019

 

Musical Experience

Began learning drums at age 9

Self-taught for 1 year until eventually receiving tuition at age 10 from Mr. Damian Pugh at Caerleon School

Achieved his grade 8 Rockschool at the age of 13, and passed his second grade 8 with Trinity & Guildhall at age 14

Worked with both percussion and drum kit with the following ensembles:

Gwent Symphonic Winds (age 13-18)

Gwent Modern Ensemble (age16-18)

Gwent Big Band (age 13-18)

Greater Gwent Youth Orchestra (age17)

Greater Gwent Youth Jazz Orchestra (age 13-21)

Isca Linea String Orchestra (age 10-18)

Greater Gwent Brass Band (age 16-18)

School Wind Band/Orchestra/Brass Band/Trad Jazz band/Big Band (age 11-19)

National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Wales (age 13-18)

 

He has performed in many prestigious venues such as:

The Royal Albert Hall

 

He has been performing a wide range of musical genres such as – Funk, Jazz, Rock&Pop, Fusion, Soul etc. – with bands such as:

all over the country as far as London, York and Edinburgh. Performing for birthdays, music events and mainly weddings. He has been professionally gigging and working with top bands since the age of 15 giving him extensive knowledge in the art of being a session musician.

 

Since finishing school, he has received tuition from world class drummers such as:

James Maddren (The Gwilym Simcock Trio)

Martin Franz (Royal Academy Lecturer)

Joshua Blackmore (Troyka)

 

He now has his own band called The Fix (links to website below) which specializes in popular music from the charts today, performing at weddings and functions all over the UK.

 

Teaching Experience

Has been teaching privately for DS Music Monmouth for 2 years

Drum Tutor for Gwent Music for 2 years

Drum Tutor on The Greater Gwent Youth Jazz Orchestra course for 2 years

Has given multiple jazz workshops in primary schools on and off for 2 years

 

Teaching Goals

To help people become great drummers with a solid sense of time, groove & feel with the ability to read exceptionally well, but also to be able to improvise confidently. More importantly to achieve all of this in a fun and relaxed manner.
